The FGVT becomes part of the Gaia-X project family

The European initiative Gaia-X works with representatives of different industries on a secure and connected data infrastructure ecosystem.

In our new world, which is characterized by digitalization, we do a large part of our business virtually. Digital platforms are constantly growing. People disclose sensitive data and usually do not know what happens to it or who can view and access it. This usually makes users cautious and slows down the development of such innovative systems. For this reason, it is all the more important to create an infrastructure in which everyone feels secure and trusted.

Gaia-X is based on principles such as openness, fairness, transparency, data protection and security.  The aim is to create a transparent digital ecosystem that allows data and services to be shared and used in a trustworthy manner. Within the Gaia-X community, users who follow the Gaia-X standards are allowed to collect and share data – but at all times retain control over where their own data and services are stored and what happens to them. The Gaia-X system is decentralized to ensure data sovereignty. The concept not only creates a cloud in the sense of data exchange, but also the possibility of networking and creating synergies.

The so-called Gaia-X Hubs are the country-specific contact points for interested companies, institutions, public bodies, associations or stakeholders. In the hubs, use cases are collected, analyzed as well as evaluated in order to subsequently define a strategy for achieving the goal of a secure data infrastructure ecosystem.

In Germany, Hub members are distributed in different categories, including agriculture, energy, health, mobility and six others. Within the mobility category, the FGVT is conducting research on two (Gaia-X 4 AMS and Gaia-X 4 ROMS) and soon a third project (Gaia-X 4 moveID).

The project family “GAIA-X 4 Future Mobility”, coordinated by the Institute for AI Security of the German Aerospace Center, is supported by about 80 partners from various fields of science as well as industry. In a total of five projects, structures for industrial applications, an intelligent traffic infrastructure and vehicle technology concepts are being developed.
