Second symposium on automated mobility
On 9 and 10 October, the Saarland Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection held its second symposium on automated and connected mobility. The two-day event, which was organised in collaboration with htw saar, was held under the motto ‘Mobility of the future – a challenge for people and technology’.
‘Our goal is to promote a positive attitude towards this innovative form of mobility and to alleviate the fears and concerns of citizens. Scepticism about automated and connected driving usually arises from the assessment and evaluation of dangerous situations. It is therefore clear that, despite highly automated processes, there must always be access to a personalised human presence,’ says Mobility Minister Petra Berg.
“The interdisciplinary research at htw saar in collaboration with other partners in Saarland is making an important contribution to the innovative development of Saarland as a centre for automated and connected mobility research. It is precisely through the close connection between technology, society and environmental aspects that we are able to develop practical solutions that put people at the centre and shape the mobility of the future in a responsible manner,” emphasises Prof. Dr.-Ing. Horst Wieker, head of the Transport Telematics Research Group at the Saarland University of Applied Sciences (htw saar).
Building on insights from the first symposium in autumn 2024, the acceptance of automated driving in society was a central topic. A workshop highlighted the factors that promote acceptance or lead to rejection. The President of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), Prof. Dr. Walter Eichendorf, also provided valuable input. Other workshops dealt with issues relating to data, such as data collection, evaluation, transfer and security, control centres for automated vehicles and sustainable mobility.
